The Stowe Mountain Club is an attractive anchor to one of the newest Vermont golf resorts.

Considering a Vermont golf vacation this summer? Given the unadvertised special we just came across, perhaps you should.
The Stowe Mountain Lodge (stowemountainlodge.com) in Stowe, Vt. a Vermont golf resort opening in July, complete with a promising new, 18-hole, Bob Cupp-designed golf course is offering a near 50 percent discount off of its "studio" level room rates this summer.
The regular July rate for these rustic/elegant, 515 square-foot rooms, which include a king bed, queen sofa bed, kitchenette, balcony, fireplace, flat-screen TV, and iPod docking station, is $555 per night. The special rate is $299 per night, including breakfast.

The notice we saw advised that reservations for this special deal could only be booked this Monday and Tuesday, April 28th and April 29th , for July stays only, but we spoke to Katia, the very friendly reservations manager, and, shhh!, she'll honor the offer even if you call before or after. She also seemed willing to extend the rate into August (although without breakfast included). The number to call is: 888-478-6938.
Now the bad news. Playing the "resort private" golf course will cost you $205. But, one way to soothe that burn is with...ice cream! The Ben & Jerry's factory, which offers tasting tours, is only 20 minutes south in Waterbury.
Later this year, my team at Golf Odyssey plans to make one of our trademark, incognito site inspections to this Vermont golf resort to see if it and its golf course are really as good as advertised.
