Free golf.
Is there any two-word combination sweeter than that? Hilton Garden Inn customers should know, as this is the third year in a row that the chain is running its Great Golf Giveaway promotion, which entitles guests to, quite literally, golf on the house.
One is justified to be skeptical of corporate promotions and deals such as this, because, after reading through all the terms, conditions, and restrictions, there's often no deal at all. This one, on the other hand, is very straightforward and worthwhile, particularly if you don't mind the Hilton Garden Inn's no-frills accommodations and service.
Here's how it works: Through October 21, 2007, guests who include a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday night in their stay will receive a voucher for a free round of golf (for two people) redeemable at more than 375 golf courses nationwide. Sure, many of the participating courses are "B" and "C" level , but there are a few A-listers included as well, such as:
- Arizona's Sanctuary Golf Course at Westworld
- California's Poppy Ridge Golf Course
- Florida's PGA Golf Club
- Indiana's The Trophy Club
- Maryland's PB Dye Golf Club
- Mississippi's Dancing Rabbit Golf Club
- Nevada's The Legacy Golf Club
- North Carolina's The Neuse Golf Club
- Texas' Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course
- Virginia's The Tradition Golf Club at Royal New Kent
Guests must arrange their own tee times and show a copy of their hotel receipt and green fee voucher upon check-in at the golf course. As far as when golf can be played, I called a random sample of six participating courses and only one had imposed an afternoon tee time restriction. Keep in mind, too, that the voucher does not include the fee for the use of golf cart, which may or may not be mandatory.
Still, free golf is free golf. So, take advantage of it by planning a summer golf vacation and maybe you'll get to hear the second sweetest two-word phrase in golf: "That's good."
