Torrey's serene scene will change come Open time.

Add one more to the already long list of good reasons to take a San Diego golf vacation: the opportunity to score tickets to the 2008 U.S Open at Torrey Pines before they go on sale to the general public.
The USGA recently announced that it will give its members the opportunity to buy week-long "grounds" and "Trophy Club" ticket packages in advance of non-members as long as they submit an application by 5 p.m. on April 15, 2007. The Trophy Club option includes access to an on-site, air-conditioned tent with food and beverage service.
The week-long packages arent cheap $400 and $595, respectively but daily tickets to the four championship rounds cost $100 each.
Once all the applications are in, a random drawing will take place to determine which members can buy the tickets, but, according to an email I received from the U.S. Opens director of admissions, "in the past, all USGA members have received the ticket packages that they applied for." The drawing will happen in June, after which the public sale of the packages and daily tickets will begin (on June 18).
Of course, to get in on the advance sale, one must be a member of the USGA, which costs $15 for the first year (for more information, contact: ticketquestions@usga.org. or 800-698-0661.).
Most importantly, if youd like to attend the 2008 U.S. Open during your San Diego golf vacation, be sure to schedule it so it overlaps with the June 9-15 tournament dates. And, make your arrangements early. This is the first time the event is being played at Torrey Pines and you can bet itll be a big one.
