The Best Steakhouse You'll Find on Your Myrtle Beach Golf Vacation

By Craig Better |

If you're serious about your steak, head to
New York Prime on your Myrtle Beach golf vacation.

After slapping the Surlyn around all day in what often resembles the wilderness, it’s easy to develop an unusually intense hunger. Well, with all due respect given to chicken, fish, pasta and veggies, it’s often the type of itch that only a thick, buttery steak can scratch.

So, the next time you’re on a Myrtle Beach golf vacation and you get one of these carnivorous cravings, make a point of posting up at New York Prime, the best steakhouse we’ve found on the Grand Strand.

You’d never guess this restaurant was just a couple of blocks from the beach (on 28th Avenue North, near the Myrtlewood and Pine Lakes golf courses). The interior has an old-school, club-like ambiance, and on the occasions we’ve been there, many of the male patrons were smartly attired in jackets and ties, though they are certainly not required. Still, this is one of the few upscale restaurants that you’ll find on your Myrtle Beach golf vacation that is better suited to adults only, rather than families with young children.

While there are a couple of seafood dishes on the menu, the steaks are, of course, the star attractions at New York Prime, which bills itself as “the only all-prime steakhouse” in town (the USDA classifies restaurant-grade meat as being Prime, Choice or Select based on the amount and distribution of tenderness- and flavor-producing marbling it has). The bone-in rib steak is to die for, but you’d better be hungry if you order this one; it’s a 22-ounce cut.

The kitchen prepares all steaks according to your specifications, and, as is typical of top-notch steakhouses, everything on the menu is a la carte. Accompaniments include sautéed onions and mushrooms, onion rings, baked potatoes and, our personal favorites, creamed spinach and asparagus spears with Hollandaise sauce. Fittingly, the wine list is extensive and the service is both friendly and impeccably professional.

If your mouth is now watering but you don’t have a Myrtle Beach golf vacation planned, don’t worry. You can also find New York Prime restaurants in Atlanta, Georgia and Boca Raton, Florida.

Terrible service and snooty rude hostesses who thought they were super models but were far from it. The steak I was fatty and overcooked... They try to create a look and feel of Morton's but fall far short... Suffice it to say I will not be going back ....

Mmmm, is it possible someone's amorous advances toward the hostesses were not returned in kind, thus tainting his experience? Just kidding. It's too bad you had a bad experience as the restaurant usually has its act together. But hey, even Tiger can make a double bogey once in a while.

Hey Craig, You are funny... I was with my 12 year old son and had no plans for "amorous" advances just wanted a Morton's quality dinning experience and got a McDonald's experience. Rodney Dangerfield said it best in Caddyshack to characterize the steak there as "LOW GRADE DOG FOOD". It really was bad and if Tiger ever played golf like they run a restaurant he would be working a driving range in Little Rock, AK. Hate to slam them like this but I really can't give a MULLLIGAn on such terrible service.... BTW Myrtle really needs a good steak house...

Next time in MB, you may care to try Franks. It was very comfortable, attentive service, very good food and leaves you feeling you ate in a top notch restaurant. Like you, I believe a high end price is obligated to deliver a high end experience.

I have been going to Myrtle Beach for over 25 years, and Angelo.s for approx. 15 years for the best Ribeye with mushrooms & onions. Excellant, Best on the Grand Strand, not a bad Pasta Buffet either.
