Most of us take a Myrtle Beach golf vacation because were looking for value, not indulgence, but The Grand Strand can offer the latter and Litchfield Plantation is the best place to get it, especially if youre traveling with someone special.
The canopy of moss-draped oak trees over the entrance lane couldnt be more romantic, unless you arrive by yacht at the plantations private marina. Of the various accommodations, The Plantation House (theres also a Guest House and Villas) offers the most character, with fireplaces, antique furniture and poster beds in each of two suites and two rooms.
Despite the Antebellum look, the rooms are furnished with modern creature comforts such as air conditioning, cable television, elegant bathrooms and the all-important terrycloth robes.
Outside, the picturesque plantation grounds include a lovely pool and cabana, tennis courts, and the Carriage House Club restaurant where the sautéed grouper in beurre blanc sauce is legendary. Guests also have access to the beach via an oceanfront house with private changing, showing and lunching areas.
