For a relatively upscale destination with plenty of golf, Hilton Head Island has surprisingly few notable lodging options. So, while our Golf Odyssey editors agree that the Inn at Harbour Town is the best place to stay on a Hilton Head golf vacation, it doesnt have much competition.
Located in the Sea Pines development at the southern end of the island, the Inn is a three-story, European-style hotel with rooms overlooking either the first hole of the famous Harbour Town Golf Links or the Sea Pines Racquet Club.
Arriving guests are greeted by a doorman and valet before being led to the concierge desk (staffed 24-hours a day) for a personalized check-in. There are welcoming public areas include a comfortable lobby lounge and library with a fireplace.
The Inns oversized guest rooms are decorated in cream and Navy blue and feature hardwood floors and Charleston-style nautical accents. The spacious bathrooms are a study in elegance, with glass-encased showers, separate soaking tubs, marble vanities and designer toiletries.
Standard room amenities include a coffee bar, stocked mini bar, and an in-room safe and, in the busy season, floor butlers are available to make reservations, perform room services, and press clothes.
Room rates include a continental breakfast buffet each morning. Cocktails, sandwiches and desserts are available from afternoon until late evening and a complimentary cheese plate is offered daily.
Despite these amenities, the hotels main selling point may be its perfect location between the first tee at Harbour Town and the Yacht Basin, home to shops and restaurants. Also, the famous 90-foot high, candy-striped lighthouse the climbing of which is almost a requirement for visitors is just steps away.
